Reading on BookZeta works in three tiers. This article states them plainly so you know exactly what you get before you sign up for anything.
The three tiers
No account. Browse the entire library, use every filter, read synopses, ratings and reviews, and read a preview of any book. You never hit a wall just trying to see what is there.
Free account. Read 3 full books per calendar month, plus everything above. You also get the reading furniture: your place saved across devices, save-for-later, favorites, favorite creators, and the ability to rate and review.
Subscription. Unlimited reading, plus the creation tools and a monthly allotment of Creation Points.
How the free allowance is counted
- The count is per calendar month and resets on the 1st.
- A book counts once, the first time you open it to read. Returning to a book you already started does not use another slot.
- Finishing is not required. Opening is what counts.
- Unused slots do not roll over.
What counts as a book
Any single work in the library: a novel, a short story, a children's book, a comic, a graphic novel or a webtoon. A short story and a 400-page novel each use one slot, so if you are on the free tier it is worth spending slots on longer works and browsing previews for the rest.
Audiobooks follow the story they belong to. Listening to a narrated book you have already opened does not use a second slot.
Things that are always free
- Browsing and searching the whole library, with no account
- Previews of every book
- Ratings, reviews, synopses and covers
- Your own books. Reading something you created never uses an allowance.
If you have run out
You have three options:
- Wait for the 1st, when the count resets.
- Subscribe, which removes the limit entirely. See Account, plans and billing.
- Keep browsing and previewing, which stays free, and build up a save-for-later list for next month.
Common questions
Does reading cost Creation Points? No. Points are only spent on creating: generating text, images, audio and exports. Reading and points are unrelated systems.
Do the mobile apps have a different limit? No. It is one account and one allowance across web, iOS and Android.
Does the Kids app work the same way? BookZeta Kids has its own age-gated catalog and its own in-app options. See Parental controls and BookZeta Kids.
Can I download a book to read offline? Downloads and exports are for works you created. Library books are read in the app or on the site.
I think my count is wrong. Check your Reading history, which lists what you have opened this month. If it still does not add up, contact support from the help page.
