Keyboard shortcuts

Once you know your way around the editor, keyboard shortcuts keep you in flow — saving, branching, switching versions and publishing without reaching for the mouse. They work in both Writer and Graphic modes. On Mac, use Cmd in place of Ctrl (and Option in place of Alt).

The shortcuts

Action Windows / Linux Mac
Save your work Ctrl + S Cmd + S
Find & Replace text Ctrl + F / Ctrl + H Cmd + F / Cmd + H
Create an alternate draft Ctrl + Shift + S / Ctrl + Alt + S Cmd + Shift + S / Cmd + Option + S
Toggle the version switcher Ctrl + Shift + V Cmd + Shift + V
Open Publish & Export Ctrl + Shift + P Cmd + Shift + P
Add a new chapter (Writer) / page (Graphic) Ctrl + Alt + N Cmd + Option + N
Return to your dashboard Ctrl + Shift + H Cmd + Shift + H

What each one does

  • Save your work triggers a manual save of the active chapter (Writer) or canvas page (Graphic). Your work also autosaves as you go, so this is for peace of mind.
  • Find & Replace text opens the built-in search tool to find matches in your document, highlight them, and replace individual or all occurrences.
  • Create an alternate draft opens the create-draft dialog so you can fork your current story into a new branch — see Drafts & branching.
  • Toggle the version switcher focuses and expands the draft menu at the sidebar header, the same menu you use to move between your main story and its alternate drafts.
  • Return to your dashboard takes you back to the project dashboard.
  • Open Publish & Export opens the publish and export options modal.
  • Add a new chapter / page instantly creates a new blank chapter in Writer Mode (or a new page in Graphic Mode) — see Managing chapters.

Tips

  • Find & Replace highlights. Matches highlight in yellow, and the active match highlights in orange, scrolling into view automatically.
  • Create-draft fallback. If your browser already uses Ctrl + Shift + S for something else (some do), Ctrl + Alt + S (Cmd + Option + S) also opens the create-draft dialog.
  • The version switcher is the draft menu. Toggling it is just a fast way to reach the menu that lists your main story and every alternate draft.
  • Save is a habit, not a requirement. Autosave runs continuously, so use the manual save shortcut whenever you want a deliberate checkpoint — and lean on version history to roll a chapter back.
